Transport1 (640x443)The CPR transport van has just returned from its monthly trip.

It has just delivered 23 dogs/pups to a wonderful NO KILL rescue in New Jersey where they will find their forever homes and families in just a short time. Some are already adopted when the van arrives!

Each month Castoff Pet Rescue sends a van of dogs, and sometimes cats/kittens, up north. Most of these animals are pulled from high kill animal shelters where they are at death’s door… and are lovingly cared for and transported to a place where there are families and people who want to adopt them.

Due to the animal ordinances that are strictly enforced in the northeastern states, they do not experience the huge overpopulation problem that exists in the south. People are given a fine if they cannot show proof of their animal being spayed or neutered!

That’s a stark contrast to here in the south where many of counties don’t even have ordinances on the books or do not have the personnel to enforce them.  Most every county in all the southern states have high kill facilities, meaning they kill a lot of animals on a weekly basis just to make room for the new ones coming in.

These monthly transports take a significant amount of work and planning. We must line up drivers each month that are willing to make the long trip, get volunteers to bathe the dogs and prepare the crates for the ride.  Not to mention coordinating which animals can go, the paperwork involved, and the trips to the vet to get all vaccinations up-to-date.  Just in case you’re wondering, the actual day of the transport begins at 3 a.m.

It is a labor of love, but one that is well worth it when we receive the pictures and updates of our babes finally going home on adoption day… and they all do.

If you would like to help in this process, please let us know. We always need volunteers and funding to keep this process going. Without both, we wouldn’t be able to save as many lives as we do.
