A few months ago Castoff Pet Rescue got a call from Union County Animal Control:  They wanted our help with 15 Beagles and 1 large dog with severe mange and bad eyes.  Sadly, the dogs’ owner was removed from the property and taken to the hospital, so Mike and Jeff from animal control promised him that they would take care of his dogs.  To that end, Castoff Pet Rescue has been going to the property for weeks trapping one dog at a time and so far we have successfully captured all but one of the Beagles.

Caring for the dogs has been a huge team effort.

Castoff has one female, Lily. She was very frightened at first, but her foster mom has done a wonderful job and Lily has come a long way.  She is house trained and gets along well with all the animals on the farm but is still somewhat timid around people she doesn’t know.

Three males were taken to Mountain Shelter in Blairsville.  Two females went to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, NC.  Another five adult females and three pups have all been sent to SouthEast Beagle Rescue in Tampa, FL.  The puppies were born in foster care. They would not have survived otherwise.

Unfortunately, one female Beagle has yet to be caught.  We have not seen her in some time and we can only hope someone else has taken her into their home.

The large old guy (the only non-Beagle) is in a foster home gaining weight and his hair is growing back.  As he is outside in a kennel, he needs to find his forever home; the nights are getting cold and we would love for him to be curled up next to someone’s fireplace on a soft dog bed.

This is Willie. He was the only non Beagle on the property.  He needs a forever home. Willie is a gentle old man, just a sweetheart looking to get out of the cold this winter. We need a foster– or better yet a forever home– for sweet Willie.  If you can open your heart and home to this senior guy please call Castoff Pet Rescue at 706-781-3992. He is the only one out of this group not inside for the winter.
