Recently we received this note from a Castoff Pet Rescue volunteer:

Hi Everyone:

Happy tails Baley 2Just in case you’ve forgotten, five years ago this February, George and I fostered 9 puppies in our basement for 5 weeks. We brought them home after they spent their first 4 weeks at the shelter where they needed to be supplemented with goats’ milk 3 times a day by shelter volunteers.

The Alpha of the group we named “Bear” and his sister “Sassie” were adopted together by a family with two young boys from NC.  Unfortunately, this was not a “forever home” for these two guys. To our surprise, about 11 months after their adoption CPR received a call that these two guys were dropped at the animal shelter in Blue Ridge. We were lucky they were still wearing our shelter’s tags.

George rushed to the shelter to find both dogs skinny, dirty and scared. We started networking to find them a foster home. Karen, who had adopted Amos, another one of the pups, rushed to Blue Ridge and took both dogs to her home.

Through additional networking, friends of Carole (who had adopted Moose, another one of the pups) Ric and Lia drove from Orlando to Blairsville. After seeing Bear’s pictures, they knew he belonged with them.

Happy tails BaleyAs you can see, Baley (as he is now known) is doing great! He is very happy with Ric and Lia. He has the run of a few acres in Florida were he makes sure no critters invade his territory. They were in the Hiawassee area for the holidays and invited us to visit with them.

Thanks to the commitment of many volunteers and supporters, these pups survived and found “Forever Homes”. Thanks to everyone who helped and continues to help rescue these wonderful companion animals.

By the way, Rushel (Sassie) found her “Forever Home” in North Georgia a few weeks after her brother. We keep in touch and she is doing great, also.
