ARF 2014 was the 14th year of a very successful rescue fair. Organized by CAN (Canine Adoption Network), in hopes of raising money for the homeless along with a venue where many adoptions can take place. It was loud, dusty and space was limited, but CPR found homes for 6 dogs as well as rescue 3 more from a death sentence.
It was a very successful day for Castoff and many other rescues, but the real winners where the dogs and cats that gained furever homes! We had more adoptions that adoption forms, requiring our last adoption to be finalized at the next adoption event at PetSmart in Alpharetta. Overall it was a tremendous day, capped off with the saving of those three sweet dogs from a rural AC facility that weren’t lucky enough to be adopted that day and faced a certain tragic end. Below are some pictures from the event.
Adoption #1 – Chocolate Lab Puppy
Adoption #2 – Chocolate Lab Puppy #2
Adoption #3 – Dexter
Adoption #4 – Duffy
Adoption #5 – Bear
Adoption #6 – Dinah
The event included the infamous Walk of Fame, a chance to parade the dogs around the arena for all to see. Many dogs participated, but look closely and you will see a very familiar face walking eloquently with one of CPR’s well known volunteers. Who could it “B”?
Below is a collection of photos taken throughout the day, showcasing our dogs and some of our wonderful volunteers who gave up their lazy Sunday afternoon to help find loving homes and to help save the lives of 3 unfortunate souls not adopted that day with no hope of a future at the rural AC shelter they found themselves at (see picture in first column, third row).
Many thanks to all those attended and helped. We had several new volunteers that stepped up and provided not only a home to foster one of the new dogs, but assisted throughout the day in tending to the dogs. Thank you Scott and Claire! Marcy, another recent addition to the volunteer family, selflessly gave her free time to help potential adopters, answer questions and walk the dogs. Steve Hampton was our man behind the camera. He took all the photos shown above, spending countless hours at the fair, setting up his equipment, taking pictures and then organizing the photos before sending them to us for display. Many thanks to him for his work. Special thanks goes to our volunteer, Levy, who spent the day with our precious Beatrice, treating her like the princess she is!! While Beatrice wasn’t adopted, she got to spend the entire day with Levy, enjoying the freedom of being out of an enclosure and having some fun wrestling with Levy and giving lots of kisses. Of course it would have been a pointless day without the dedication of our president, Shannon and her sidekick, Kelly, getting up early, loading up the van, driving hours, unloading everything and attending to each adoption with precision and detail. We couldn’t do it without their sacrifice and willingness to travel for these adoption events.
