After a year-long effort on the part of our volunteers Lynn and Bill Hall, Bingo in Blairsville finally had its beginning on Oct. 9. Thus far, the event has been well-received by the community and has proven to be a successful fundraiser for our shelter, with weekly attendance numbers ranging from 78 to 124. Many of the participants are serious and seasoned bingo players, while others are enthusiastic beginners, and they all have had very favorable comments about how they appreciate having this form of entertainment offered in a local venue. With the doors opening at 6:00pm, there is opportunity to enjoy a light supper or snack from the kitchen while setting up game cards and socializing, and with cash prizes starting at $50 and going up to $600, there is quite a bit of hopeful excitement.
Our hard working volunteers arrive early to set up the tables and chairs and gaming equipment, and there are a number of jobs to be filled, such as greeters, cashiers, kitchen staff, and cleanup crew, so the entire event is a great team effort. Terry is becoming quite an accomplished numbers-caller, and we have received several compliments on how well he does that job. We’re just hoping he doesn’t decide to move to Las Vegas! 🙂
We’re truly grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to make this event a reality, and we hope it will continue to be a good thing for the community and a benefit for the critters.
